We’re looking for an HR & People Trustee to help shape the next chapter of It’s in the Bag
You’ll bring a people-focused voice to our Board, helping us strengthen culture, support our brilliant volunteers and ensure our charity continues to grow positively and sustainably.
What difference will you make?
People are at the heart of everything we do.
As It’s in the Bag continues to develop, our new HR & People Trustee will help us make sure our people practices grow with us.
- Your contribution will help us create an environment where volunteers feel valued and supported, roles and responsibilities are clear, difficult conversations can be handled well, and everyone involved with the charity understands the part they play in achieving our purpose.
- You’ll also help us think longer term.
- That means supporting the Board to consider the skills and people we will need in the future, strengthening succession planning, developing our organisational culture and ensuring that good governance and good people practice go hand in hand.
- Most importantly, your expertise will ultimately support our ability to deliver our mission raising awareness of testicular cancer and supporting men and their families when they need us.
For the right person, this is an opportunity to bring your professional experience into the Boardroom, influence the future direction of a growing charity and leave a genuine legacy through the people and culture you help us build.
If you are interested in this role, please send your CV and a covering letter.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about people and understands that good people practice is about much more than policies and processes.
- You may come from an HR, People or Organisational Development background – but you absolutely don’t have to.
- We’d also really welcome someone who has strong experience of leading and managing people, building positive teams, handling difficult conversations well and making fair, thoughtful decisions.
- What matters most is that you are someone who will do the right thing, even when situations are difficult.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Experience or knowledge in some of the following areas would be valuable:
- people leadership and management
- organisational culture and development
- employee or volunteer experience
- recruitment, induction and succession planning
- wellbeing, inclusion and belonging
- managing sensitive or complex people matters
- supporting leaders and teams through change
- HR or employment practice
Just as importantly, we’re looking for the right person around the Board table.
- You’ll be collaborative, approachable and comfortable listening to different perspectives.
- You’ll be able to challenge constructively when necessary, while recognising that we are a small charity powered by people who care enormously about what they do.
- We value someone who can bring experience and judgement without unnecessary bureaucracy – someone who can help us find practical, proportionate solutions.
- You should be comfortable thinking strategically and understand the distinction between Trustee governance and day-to-day operational management.
Previous Board or Trustee experience is not essential. We would warmly welcome someone looking for their first Trustee position who has strong people leadership experience and wants to use it for a meaningful cause.
Above all, we’re looking for someone who is kind, fair, sensible and courageous enough to speak up when it matters – someone who will help us create a culture where people feel valued, supported and able to make a difference.

This is much more than a traditional HR role.
Our charity is powered by people – our volunteers, operational team, Trustees, supporters and the wider community who give their time and energy to help us support men affected by testicular cancer and raise awareness of the importance of early detection.
As our HR & People Trustee, you’ll be the Board’s lead voice on people, culture and organisational development. You’ll work collaboratively with fellow Trustees and our operational team, providing constructive advice, challenge and support when needed.
The role will have particular oversight of areas including
- people and volunteer strategy
- organisational culture and wellbeing
- HR policies and good people practice
- recruitment, induction and succession planning
- volunteer experience and engagement
- organisational development and future workforce planning
- supporting the Board with sensitive or complex people matters when required
We’ve been doing a lot of work behind the scenes to strengthen our governance, clarify roles and responsibilities and think carefully about how the charity should develop for the future.
That makes this a particularly interesting time to join us.
You won’t be walking into a role where everything is already decided. We want someone who will bring their own experience, ideas and perspective and help us continue shaping what great people practice looks like for a small, ambitious charity.
You’ll have the opportunity to make a genuine contribution at Board level while still remaining connected to the people who make the charity what it is.
Previous Trustee experience would be welcomed, but it is not essential. We’re equally interested in someone who is ready to take their first step into a Board role and wants to use their professional experience for a cause that really matters.
