DeterTech's purpose is giving greater peace of mind to people and communities, every day – and that starts with getting the basics right for our own people. This role exists to bring our HR policies, employment contracts and supporting documentation up to date, consistent and legally sound across all six of the countries we operate in: the UK, Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden.
The HR Consultant will work closely with the Director of People & Culture, local HR contacts and external employment lawyers to review, rewrite and roll out policies, templates and contracts that are clear, warm and easy for managers and colleagues to use – while meeting current statutory requirements in every jurisdiction. The role directly supports the Group's ambition to standardise core People processes globally and to embed the new Group banding framework.
ABOUT DETERTECH
DeterTech is a security technology company operating across six countries, with principal UK sites in Prestwick and Telford. We predict, deter and detect risk on behalf of the people and communities we serve. Our values – Committed, Inclusive and Ambitious – shape how we work every day: we are accountable and deliver excellence; we collaborate and build trust; and we never stop learning while winning in the right way.
This role will be on a hybrid basis – based at Prestwick, Scotland or Telford, England, with occasional travel to DeterTech's other sites (Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden) as the review programme requires.
Key Responsibilities
Policy review and update
- Audit all existing HR policies across the six countries against current legislation, sector best practice and DeterTech's values and tone of voice.
- Rewrite or refresh policies (for example disciplinary, grievance, family leave, flexible working, absence and conduct) so they are clear, consistent and easy for managers and colleagues to follow.
- Ensure UK policies reflect the Acas Code of Practice and current Working Time Regulations, and that country-specific policies reflect local equivalents (for example the AGG in Germany).
- Build a single, version-controlled policy library with clear ownership, effective dates and a regular review cycle.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

- Design and produce a consistent set of templates and letters for common People processes – offer letters, probation, disciplinary and grievance correspondence, flexible working requests, parental leave, and change-of-terms letters among others.
- Localise templates for each country's statutory wording and requirements, working with local HR contacts and external counsel where needed.
- Apply DeterTech's brand standards consistently across all documents, so that everything a colleague or manager receives looks and feels like it comes from one organisation.
- Where useful, build supporting guidance (manager toolkits, FAQs, process flowcharts) so documents are used correctly and consistently.
Employment contract review and update
- Review and update employment contract templates for all six countries, covering permanent, fixed-term and part-time arrangements.
- Ensure contracts meet current legal requirements in each jurisdiction (including the UK's written statement of particulars) and reflect the new Group banding framework.
- Coordinate sign-off with external employment lawyers in each country before templates are finalised.
- Plan and support the process for reissuing or varying contracts for existing employees where changes are required, including clear, reassuring communication to those affected.
Multi-country compliance and governance
- Track relevant legislative developments across the UK, Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden, and flag where policies, templates or contracts need to be updated.
- Identify where policy or contract changes affecting terms or working practices require works council consultation in Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark, and build the necessary time into the project plan.
- Maintain a clear audit trail of document versions, approvals and effective dates to support compliance and any future audit.
Stakeholder management and rollout
- Work closely with the Director of People & Culture, external legal advisors and local HR contacts to agree priorities and sign off changes.
- Plan a practical rollout of new and updated policies, templates and contracts, with clear timelines and communication for managers and colleagues.
- Brief the wider People & Culture team on new templates and policies so they can apply them confidently and consistently.
