Description

Job Title: HR Recruitment Assistant

Department: Human Resources

Salary: Starting salary £28,215

Job Type: Permanent, 35 hours per week

The Recruitment Assistant will provide high-quality administrative and operational support to the Recruitment Manager, helping to deliver an efficient, professional, and customer-focused recruitment service across the College.

As a key member of the HR team, the postholder will support the end-to-end recruitment and onboarding process, ensuring that vacancies are filled in a timely manner and that candidates, managers, and stakeholders receive an excellent experience throughout the recruitment journey. The role will contribute to attracting and securing talented individuals who will support the College's strategic objectives and values.

Working closely with the Recruitment Manager, hiring managers, and colleagues across the College, the Recruitment Assistant will help ensure recruitment processes are compliant, organised, and effective, while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in HR and recruitment. The successful candidate will gain exposure to a broad range of recruitment activities, develop their knowledge of employment and recruitment practices, and build valuable experience within a busy and supportive in-house HR environment.

Location: Arts Centre, Myrtle Street

Reporting to: Recruitment Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of the College’s end-to-end recruitment and onboarding processes, ensuring vacancies are filled efficiently and professionally.
  • Coordinate recruitment activities, including advertising vacancies, managing applications, arranging interviews, and issuing recruitment correspondence.
  • Act as the first point of contact for recruitment-related enquiries, providing a responsive and customer-focused service to candidates, managers, and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential recruitment records, systems, and documentation in line with data protection requirements and best practice.
  • Support pre-employment checks, including references, right to work, DBS, qualification, and other compliance requirements.
  • Prepare recruitment and onboarding documentation, including job packs, offers, and new starter information.
  • Deliver an excellent candidate experience by ensuring clear communication and timely progression through all stages of recruitment.
  • Work closely with recruiting managers to support recruitment campaigns and ensure adherence to College policies and procedures.
  • Assist with onboarding and induction activities to support the successful integration of new employees into the College.
  • Produce recruitment data, reports, and management information to support workforce planning and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the Recruitment Manager and Heads of School to maintain an effective bank worker pipeline and fulfil staffing requirements.
  • Support the College's commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and belonging by ensuring recruitment processes are fair, transparent, and accessible.
  • Contribute to recruitment marketing, attraction campaigns, careers events, and initiatives that enhance the College’s employer brand.
  • Identify opportunities to improve recruitment processes, systems, and candidate experience, supporting continuous service improvement.
  • Promote inclusive recruitment practices and contribute to initiatives that encourage applications from underrepresented groups.
  • Ensure all recruitment activities are conducted in accordance with relevant legislation and best practice.
  • Undertake other duties commensurate with the level of the role to support the effective delivery of HR and recruitment services.

Professional Practice and Values

  • Actively contribute to the College Group mission and values, ensuring these principles are effectively implemented in all areas of College life.
  • Take proactive responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment by upholding Health & Safety standards and ensuring safe working practices at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
  • Provide support for cross-college activities, especially during key periods such as enrolment and invigilation.

Perform any other duties as required, as appropriate to the role and grade.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential Criteria

  • At least one year’s administrative experience, ideally within an HR, internal or external recruitment environment.
  • Proactive, organised, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills, with experience managing schedules, correspondence, and records.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally.
  • Confident in using recruitment systems, applicant tracking software, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
  • Professional and approachable, with the ability to build positive relationships at all levels.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and demands.
  • Ability to work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • A team player with a supportive and collaborative approach.

Desirable Criteria

  • Understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience.
  • Fluent speaking in any of the mentioned languages: Arabic, Persian, Kurmanji (Northern Kurdish), Sorani (Central Kurdish), Portuguese, Spanish, Tigrinya, Vietnamese, French.
