Company Description

St Francis Dogs Home is a dedicated rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming center for dogs in need of permanent, caring homes. In the absence of a loving family, the team provides nurturing, affection, and structured support to every dog in their care. The charity’s primary aim is to give dogs a second chance by carefully matching them with suitable adopters. St Francis Dogs Home maintains a strong success rate in finding dogs the homes they deserve, reflecting both the team’s commitment and the effectiveness of their rehoming processes. This is a values-driven environment where animal welfare and responsible adoption are at the heart of every decision.

Role Description

The HR Trustee will provide strategic oversight and guidance on people-related matters to support the charity’s mission and ensure a positive, fair, and compliant working environment. This part-time role involves:

The HR Trustee will help ensure compliance with employment law and best practice, support performance and wellbeing initiatives, and contribute to workforce planning that aligns with the charity’s goals and resources. The role is hybrid, based in Newquay with a mix of on-site attendance and some work from home, including preparation for meetings, policy reviews, and remote collaboration with other trustees and the management team.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Human Resources, including policy development, employee relations, and workforce planning.
  • Knowledge of employment law, HR compliance, and best practices in safeguarding and equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust with staff, volunteers, and fellow trustees.
  • Strategic thinking and governance experience, ideally in a charity, non-profit, or public sector setting.
  • Ability to analyze HR issues, interpret data, and offer practical, ethical recommendations to the Board.
  • Comfort working in a hybrid setup, with good self-organization, time management, and digital literacy (email, video meetings, document sharing).
  • Alignment with the mission of dog welfare and rescue, and a commitment to compassionate, inclusive leadership.
  • Relevant professional HR qualification or equivalent experience is highly beneficial.
