HSE Advisor
Sector: Energy / Utilities / Heavy Civils
Qualification: NEBOSH General Certificate
The Opportunity:
We are looking for an experienced HSE Advisor on a 12 month contract + extensions to support the safe delivery of projects and operations within the energy, utilities and heavy infrastructure sector.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years' experience within an HSE Advisor position, with a strong understanding of health, safety and environmental legislation, risk management and safe systems of work.
Candidates from renewable energy, utilities, power, heavy civils, construction, heavy engineering or industrial environments are particularly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
- Provide professional Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) advice and guidance to project managers, site teams, contractors and employees.
- Promote a proactive and positive HSE culture through coaching, communication, site engagement and behavioural safety initiatives.
- Conduct, review and support risk assessments and method statements (RAMS), ensuring appropriate control measures are implemented.
- Carry out regular site inspections, safety audits and HSE monitoring, identifying hazards and areas for improvement.
- Support and lead incident, accident and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
- Maintain and continuously improve Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems.
- Support compliance with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001, including internal audits, reporting and continuous improvement activities.
- Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, safety briefings and HSE awareness training.
- Support contractor and subcontractor management, ensuring compliance with project HSE requirements and safe systems of work.
- Review HSE documentation and ensure project activities comply with company procedures, client requirements and applicable legislation.
- Support environmental compliance, monitoring programmes, waste management and sustainability initiatives.
- Maintain accurate HSE records, statistics, reports, inspection findings and performance data.
- Monitor corrective actions and ensure identified HSE issues are appropriately closed out.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies where required.
- Provide HSE support across multiple sites/projects where necessary.

Requirements:

- 5+ years' experience as an HSE Advisor, Safety Advisor or similar HSE position.
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent – essential.
- Previous experience within Energy, Renewables, Utilities, Heavy Civils, Construction, Heavy Engineering or Industrial environments.
- Strong knowledge of risk assessments, RAMS, incident investigation and safe systems of work.
- Working knowledge of ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001 management systems.
- Experience conducting site inspections, audits and HSE compliance reviews.
- Good understanding of relevant health, safety and environmental legislation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to engage effectively with site operatives, contractors, management and senior stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage priorities across a busy project environment.
- Competent with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and Outlook.
