HSE Advisor (Night Shift) - Southampton
This is a full-time night shift contract position based at Fawley, commencing mid-September and continuing through to the end of October, supporting a major turnaround project.
The HSE Advisor will be responsible for promoting and maintaining a strong health, safety, and environmental culture across all mechanical installation activities during the turnaround. Key duties include:
- Conducting site inspections
- Monitoring work activities
- Undertaking risk assessments
- Carrying out safety audits to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, client standards, and site procedures
The role will support incident reporting and investigation activities, ensuring findings are communicated effectively and appropriate corrective actions are implemented. The HSE Advisor will deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings, and site inductions, providing practical guidance and support to supervisors, contractors, and project management teams on safe systems of work.

Working closely with project stakeholders, the successful candidate will proactively identify hazards, assess risks, and help implement effective control measures to prevent incidents and maintain a safe working environment throughout the turnaround period. Additional responsibilities include:

- Monitoring permit-to-work compliance
- Maintaining accurate HSE records
- Contributing to the achievement of project safety objectives during this fast-paced shutdown campaign
Qualifications
Candidates should possess:
- Strong Health & Safety, Occupational Health, and Environment Health and Safety (EHS) skills, with practical experience in industrial or construction settings.
- NEBOSH or equivalent HSE qualifications, along with knowledge of relevant UK regulations and industry best practices.
- Experience in Auditing, including conducting HSE inspections, internal audits, and compliance reviews.
- Effective communication, training, and stakeholder engagement skills to influence safe behaviors across diverse teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate incidents, identify root causes, and implement improvements.
- Proficiency in report writing, documentation, and use of standard office software; prior experience in Oil & Gas or Petro-Chemical environments is highly beneficial.
