Mitsubishi Chemicals UK
Mitsubishi Chemicals UK are to build a new production plant adjacent to their existing plant on Saltend Chemicals Park in Hull, named the PUMA project.
BUK have been appointed Principal Contractor for the project. As part of the HSE team, the Safety Advisor will be responsible for supporting the effective implementation of the project's Health, Safety and Environmental management systems. The Safety Advisor will provide professional advice and guidance to site management, supervisors and the workforce, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, company standards and client expectations. The role requires a proactive presence on site, conducting inspections, audits and safety tours, monitoring work activities, reviewing risk assessments and method statements, and supporting incident investigations. The Safety Advisor will work closely with operational personnel to identify hazards, implement control measures and promote a positive safety culture. The Safety Advisor will also assist in workforce engagement initiatives, monitor corrective actions, and provide continual support to ensure all personnel have the knowledge, competence and resources required to carry out their duties safely and efficiently. As a key member of the project team, the Safety Advisor will contribute to the continuous improvement of HSE performance throughout the duration of the project.

You will be site based full time in the PUMA project offices.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the successful delivery of large-scale mechanical project, ensuring the safety of the project workforce is maintained.
As the HSE Advisor, your activities will include the following, but not limited to:
- Provide competent health, safety and environmental (HSE) advice and guidance to management, supervisors and employees.
- Ensure compliance with UK health and safety legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and relevant regulations.
- Conduct workplace inspections, audits and safety tours to identify hazards and ensure standards are maintained.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
- Develop, review and maintain risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
- Monitor contractor performance and ensure compliance with site HSE requirements.
- Deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks and training programmes to promote a positive safety culture.
- Support operational teams in planning work activities to ensure risks are assessed and controlled effectively.
- Maintain HSE records, reports and statistics, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
- Assist in the development, implementation and continuous improvement of HSE management systems.
- Monitor compliance with company policies, client requirements and industry best practices.
- Participate in emergency preparedness planning, drills and response activities.
- Promote workforce engagement through behavioural safety initiatives and consultation processes.
- Liaise with clients, regulatory authorities and external stakeholders on HSE matters.
- Track and close out audit findings, corrective actions and improvement opportunities.
- Support environmental and occupational health programmes where applicable.
- Analyse safety performance data and produce reports for management review.
- Champion a proactive safety culture and drive continuous improvement across all operations.

Experience
- Experience in a Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor role within construction, engineering, industrial services, petrochemical, chemical, manufacturing or energy sectors.
- Experience supporting Principal Contractor operations under CDM 2015.
- Proven experience conducting:
- Site inspections
- Audits
- Behavioural safety observations
- Leadership safety tours
- Experience reviewing and challenging Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
Qualifications
- NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).
- Technical Member of IOSH (TechIOSH) or actively working towards membership.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- GCSE (or equivalent) Grade C/4 or above in English and Mathematics.
- CSCS Professionally Qualified Person Card (White Card) or ability to obtain.
- Understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation including:
- Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974
- CDM Regulations 2015
