Health, Safety & Environment Performance Coach | Utilities / Civil Engineering
This is a genuinely different opportunity within an established civil engineering and utilities business.
We are looking for an HSE Performance Coach to work as part of the wider HSE team, supporting operational teams to improve safety performance through coaching, engagement, and practical problem-solving rather than simply policing compliance.
This is a predominantly site-based role, working across multiple projects throughout London. You will spend time with operational teams on site, understanding challenges, analysing trends, and helping drive behavioural and performance improvements.
This could suit someone from one of two backgrounds:
- An experienced coach, trainer, or performance professional who has the ability and appetite to learn the technical aspects of civil engineering and utilities.
- Someone already working within utilities, civil engineering, HSE, or service avoidance who has strong communication skills and could be developed into a coaching role.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
You do not necessarily need to arrive with both skill sets. What is important is your ability to engage with people, challenge constructively, solve problems, and quickly understand technical concepts.
The role will involve:
- Coaching and supporting operational teams to improve safety performance
- Responding to incidents and identifying practical solutions to prevent recurrence
- Reviewing and analysing HSE data and trends through Power BI
- Producing meaningful insights and recommendations from performance data
- Supporting behavioural change initiatives across projects
- Working closely with site teams to improve standards and performance
- Travelling across multiple sites throughout London
A strong understanding of, or ability to quickly learn, areas such as underground services, service avoidance, CAT & Genny, and safe excavation practices will be important.
We are particularly interested in people who can demonstrate:
