How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?
Air Liquide UK is seeking an experienced HSE Specialist to act as the safety and technical authority across our UK operations. You will provide high-level HSE leadership to all levels of the business, with a focus on Facility Managers to establish and maintain a high level of compliance with the IMS and local health and safety regulatory requirements.
This role focuses on the North of the UK, so regular travel across the region and down to our head office in Birmingham will be a core part of your role.
Responsibilities
- Hazard Analysis & Risk Mitigation: Lead complex qualitative and quantitative risk assessments (including HAZOP and LOPA). Integrate Human and Organizational Factors (HOF) to minimize risk in safety-critical tasks and environmental conditions.
- Safety Culture & Leadership: Champion a proactive, safety mindset across all operations. Drive employee engagement initiatives, deliver high-impact safety briefings and workshops, and lead by example in safe working practices.
- Management Systems & Audits: Facilitate and continuously improve the Industrial Management System (IMS). As a Lead Auditor, conduct comprehensive multi-disciplinary safety audits, identify root vulnerabilities, and oversee complex corrective action plans.
- Data Intelligence: Synthesize leading and lagging data into predictive safety models, delivering actionable reporting and metrics to strengthen H&S adherence and executive decision-making.
- Change Management: Drive Change Management initiatives, ensuring technical safety integrity is maintained during facility modifications or process shifts.
- Incident Investigation: Lead thorough Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations using structured methodologies (e.g., Tripod Beta, Fishbone) to resolve systemic failures and prevent repeat incidents.
- Stakeholder Management: Build strong collaborative relationships with operational teams, management, and contractors to influence behavior and ensure consistent application of HSE standards.

We are searching for a self-motivated Health & Safety professional with an ability to build and embed a proactive safety mindset across our UK operations.

You will need:
- 7–10+ years minimum experience in an industrial Health and Safety function
- A NEBOSH Diploma is essential
- A Technical education (E.g. Bachelors in Engineering, chemistry) OR relevant work experience.
- Strong understanding of HSE, Process Risk, IMS, Industrial auditing and system management
- Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment is beneficial but not essential
- CMIOSH is beneficial but not essential.
- Strong communication skills and an ability to build strong working relationships across the business.
- An ability to translate complex technical risks into clear safety briefings and training.
- Full UK driving license and an openness to regular travel.
