Job Description:

Linux System Administrator

Security Requirements

Due to the nature of the work and the customers we support, successful candidates must be eligible to meet UK Government and contractual security requirements, including applicable residency requirements, and have the right to work in the United Kingdom. Some roles may also be subject to nationality requirements where necessary to meet security obligations.

Location & Working Pattern

This is a fully onsite position, based at the customer location five days per week. Due to customer requirements, hybrid and remote working are not available for this role.

The Role

At DXC, one of our platinum accounts has exciting opportunities for Linux Administrators at various experience levels.

Working as part of a highly skilled technical team, you will help support and maintain critical Linux infrastructure that underpins essential customer services. This is an opportunity to work in a complex enterprise environment where no two days are the same, giving you exposure to a wide range of technologies, challenges, and continuous learning opportunities.

Whether you're troubleshooting issues, improving system performance, automating manual processes, or helping drive service improvements, you'll play an important role in maintaining secure, reliable, and high-performing Linux environments.

You'll be encouraged to bring new ideas, share knowledge with colleagues, and contribute to the continuous improvement of both our services and technical capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide first and second-line support for infrastructure incidents, requests, and problems.
  • Administer, support, and maintain enterprise Linux environments.
  • Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity to ensure stable service delivery.
  • Perform system patching, upgrades, and maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve Linux operating system and infrastructure issues.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with operational processes, policies, and security standards.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and continual service improvement.
  • Collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders to deliver effective solutions.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Experience administering Linux operating systems such as RHEL, Ubuntu, Debian, or SUSE.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working within ITIL-based service environments.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and time-management skills.
  • Experience with Bash scripting and Linux command-line administration.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • Ability and willingness to work onsite at the customer location five days per week.

Desirable

  • Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Python and Git.
  • AWS cloud experience.
  • VMware, KVM, Docker, Podman, or Kubernetes.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation experience.
  • Linux performance tuning and monitoring tools.
