What does a career in Human Capital Tax Advisory actually involve?
Human Capital Tax Advisory is about helping businesses understand and manage the tax implications of their people, reward and employment strategies, while gaining insight into how organisations attract, retain and reward their workforce. You’ll work with a variety of organisations, from growing businesses and innovative start-ups to larger companies and international groups, building relationships with clients and developing an understanding of their people-related challenges and objectives. From an early stage, you’ll support work such as gathering and analysing employee and payroll information, researching tax and employment guidance, helping prepare advice and reports, and supporting clients with areas such as remuneration, employee incentives, share schemes and international mobility. As your experience develops, you’ll gain exposure to more complex projects and advisory work, helping clients understand the tax implications of different approaches to rewarding and managing their people. It’s a career that combines technical knowledge with commercial awareness, analytical thinking, problem solving and working with people. If you’re interested in how businesses manage and reward their workforce, how employee incentives can support business objectives, and how tax can shape people strategies, Human Capital Tax Advisory could be a great fit for you.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
