Standard Job Description

Manages the application of human performance principles, methodologies, and technologies to the design of human-machine systems and products. Oversees the development and implementation of research methodologies and statistical analysis plans to test and evaluate developmental prototypes used in new products and processes, such as cockpit designs, user workstations, and computerized human models. Manages the collaboration with design engineers to establish system design, operating, and training requirements and to ensure optimized human-machine interfaces. Directs the identification and analyses of technological problems or risks, performance theoretical human factors investigations, and development and implementation of research and analysis plans.

Lockheed Martin (UK) Ampthill are embarking on an exciting and growing range of long term national and international programmes and opportunities in the Special Projects domain. One such programme is the imminent Contract Award of P618.

We need a Senior Engineering Manager to own and drive the Specialist Engineering Team supporting the programme (including Human Factors, Safety and Environmental). This role requires high calibre and proven individual with focused skills and experience in order to design, integrate and deliver real systems. The successful applicant will operate at the core of this expanding Team driving technical direction and developing junior staff. This is a challenging senior role, requiring a talented individual.

The successful candidate will have experience in Human Factors as a core skill, and design experience of delivering safety and security critical systems.

Required Skills, Qualifications And Experience

  • User centred design.
  • Management of HF issues and risks.
  • Undertaking HF analyses, such as task analysis, error analysis, workload assessment.
  • Undertaking user trials and gathering user feedback.
  • Analysing trial data and user feedback.
  • Writing HF design documents, including HFIP, style guide and analysis reports.
  • Using HF Defence Standards.

  • Communicate effectively with those outside the HF domain, including users and customers.
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Direct own tasks within overall project direction.
  • Be an advocate for HF and Specialist Engineering within the engineering process.
  • Use user feedback and trials evidence to contribute to design development.
  • Develop solutions to address HF design issues.
  • Balance needs of the user within the design constraints.
  • Record and track the HF contribution to the design process.
  • Present data clearly and concisely in technical reports.
