Job Title: HR Assistant

We are seeking an organised and proactive HR Assistant to support the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources function within our growing construction company based in Bolton. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring HR processes are administered efficiently, supporting employee onboarding, training and development, employment documentation, employee relations, and general HR administration.

This is an excellent opportunity for an HR professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and contributing to the development and wellbeing of our workforce.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment and Onboarding

  • Coordinate the onboarding process for new employees.
  • Prepare and issue offer letters, contracts of employment, and new starter documentation.
  • Conduct induction programmes and ensure all mandatory documentation is completed.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HR databases.
  • Assist with recruitment activities, including advertising vacancies, arranging interviews, and communicating with candidates.

Training and Development

  • Coordinate employee training programmes and maintain training records.
  • Monitor mandatory training requirements and ensure compliance.
  • Assist managers in identifying training and development needs across the business.
  • Liaise with external training providers where required.

Employee Relations

  • Provide administrative support for disciplinary, grievance, and absence management procedures.
  • Arrange and attend disciplinary and grievance hearings, taking accurate notes and maintaining confidential records.
  • Support managers with HR policies and procedures.
  • Assist in resolving employee queries and concerns in a professional and confidential manner.

HR Administration

  • Prepare and issue employment contracts, contract amendments, and other HR correspondence.
  • Maintain personnel files and ensure compliance with GDPR and employment legislation.
  • Monitor probationary review processes and coordinate review meetings.
  • Assist with payroll administration by providing accurate employee information and updates.
  • Produce HR reports and management information as required.
  • Support the implementation and review of HR policies and procedures.

Compliance and General Duties

  • Ensure compliance with employment law and company policies.
  • Assist with health and safety administration relating to employees.
  • Support audits and compliance checks relating to HR documentation.
  • Undertake any other HR-related duties as required to support the business.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience in an HR administration or HR assistant role.
  • Good understanding of HR processes and employment legislation.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Desirable

  • Experience within the construction, engineering, or manufacturing sector.
  • Knowledge of recruitment and training administration.
  • Experience supporting disciplinary and grievance procedures.
