Up to £16 per hour | Temporary, Hybrid Working (Temp to Perm Potential) | Exeter
Cathedral Appointments is recruiting on behalf of an established organisation based in Exeter, currently seeking an experienced HR Advisor / Generalist to join their team on a temporary basis, with strong potential to become permanent for the right person.
The Role
This is a varied generalist HR role, combining day-to-day HR administration with more involved, people-focused work. You will provide first-line HR advice and support across the employee lifecycle, and will be confident handling a range of employee relations matters, including supporting one-to-one meetings with staff as part of wider organisational change processes. This role suits someone with solid generalist HR experience and a good working knowledge of employment legislation, who is comfortable balancing administrative tasks with more sensitive, confidential conversations. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:15pm, with a hybrid pattern of 2 days in the office and 3 days from home.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
