HR Advisor - Employee Relations
Birmingham / West Midlands - Multi-site
£35,000-£37,500 + Company Car or Car Allowance
An established UK infrastructure and highways organisation is looking to appoint an experienced HR Advisor (Employee Relations) to support a major highways maintenance contract across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands region.
This is a varied, operationally focused position with a strong emphasis on employee relations. You will work closely with managers and employees across multiple depots, providing practical advice, managing sensitive casework and helping to maintain a fair, respectful and legally compliant workplace.
The Role
Acting as a trusted advisor to operational managers, you will manage employee relations matters from initial referral through to resolution. Your caseload will include disciplinary, grievance, capability, conduct, attendance and performance matters.
- Plan and conduct impartial workplace investigations, including evidence gathering, interviews and the preparation of clear written reports
- Coach managers through difficult conversations
- Support absence and return-to-work processes
- Encourage early, informal resolution wherever appropriate

Alongside case management, you will maintain accurate and confidential records, identify recurring employee relations trends and contribute to manager training, policy development and wider HR improvement projects.
The Candidate
We are looking for an HR Advisor or Employee Relations (ER) Advisor who can demonstrate:
- Approximately three years or more of HR advisory or employee relations experience, including complex casework and workplace investigations
- Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and the confidence to apply it practically
- Excellent judgement, discretion, impartiality and written communication skills
- Confidence advising and influencing managers at all levels
- CIPD Level 5 qualification, an equivalent qualification or current study towards this level
- Strong organisational and IT skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly between operational depots
Experience within infrastructure, highways, construction, engineering, logistics or another operational multi-site environment would be advantageous, although applicants from other fast-paced sectors will also be considered.
