HR Advisor
Home based with travel to client sites and our Sheffield office as required
Full time or part time (4 or 5 days per week) | Permanent
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Want an HR role with more variety, autonomy and flexibility?
We’re looking for an experienced HR Advisor to join the growing HR team at Bhayani Law, part of Make UK.
This isn’t a traditional in-house HR role.
You’ll work with your own portfolio of businesses and charities, becoming a trusted HR partner and helping clients solve real workplace challenges. One day you might be advising a manager through a difficult employee relations issue; another you could be supporting a restructure, conducting an investigation, developing a new HR policy or delivering training.
You’ll have the freedom to manage your own clients and workload, backed by an experienced team of HR professionals and specialist employment lawyers.
And importantly, the role is predominantly home based. You’ll work from home day-to-day, travelling to client sites and our Sheffield office when there’s a genuine reason to be there.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll:
- Manage and develop your own portfolio of retained HR clients.
- Provide practical, commercially focused advice across the employee lifecycle.
- Advise on disciplinaries, grievances, performance, absence and other employee relations matters.
- Support and conduct workplace investigations.
- Draft contracts, policies, procedures and employee correspondence.
- Help clients improve their HR practices and develop effective people strategies.
- Support restructures, redundancies, TUPE, acquisitions and other complex projects alongside our employment lawyers.
- Provide interim HR support to clients remotely and, where required, on-site.
- Develop HR resources, toolkits and practical guidance.
- Design and deliver HR training and workshops where appropriate.
- Build strong relationships with clients and become a trusted extension of their team.
- Contribute to webinars, networking, events and other activities that help us develop our client community.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Who we’re looking for
You’ll probably have at least two years’ practical HR advisory experience and be comfortable dealing with employee relations matters independently.
More importantly, you’ll be someone who enjoys getting to the heart of a problem and finding a sensible solution.
You’ll need:
- Good knowledge of HR best practice and UK employment law.
- Experience advising managers on employee relations issues.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Strong drafting skills.
- Confidence working autonomously and managing competing priorities.
- A practical, commercial and solutions-focused approach.
- The confidence to challenge constructively when needed.
- A willingness to travel to client sites and our Sheffield office when required.
Experience of HR consultancy, training, TUPE or restructures would be useful but isn’t essential.
CIPD qualification is welcome, but we’re equally interested in strong HR practitioners who have built their expertise through experience.
