Job Title: HR Assistant

Location: Sheffield (Hybrid – 2 days in office, 3 days remote)

Contract Duration: 3 months initial contract

Start Date: ASAP

Role Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a hands-on HR Assistant to join a government-backed development bank based in Sheffield city centre on an initial 3-month contract. Operating within a hybrid setup, this position plays a key operational role in supporting the wider People team, handling core Employee Relations casework, generating formal documentation, and assisting with direct resourcing across corporate business areas.

Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations & Casework Support:

  • Act as a first point of contact for routine HR and Employee Relations queries across various business units.
  • Provide end-to-end administration support on live ER cases, including capability, performance management, disciplinaries, and sickness absence management.
  • Assist managers with dealing with formal and informal grievances in line with internal policies and legal standards.

Documentation & Governance:

  • Draft, produce, and issue all outcome letters, formal written correspondence, and case documentation in a timely and compliant manner.
  • Maintain precise employee records and keep HR systems updated with case progression and management data.

Formal Note-Taking:

  • Attend formal HR meetings, disciplinary hearings, grievance panels, and consultations as the designated note-taker.
  • Produce clear, accurate, and concise minutes/notes from complex and sensitive discussions to support formal outcomes.

Internal Recruitment Support:

  • Provide operational support across live internal resourcing campaigns alongside line managers.
  • Assist with posting job adverts, screening and shortlisting candidate applications, and coordinating interview schedules.
  • Participate in interview panels or coordinate onboarding documentation where required.

Key Requirements & Experience

  • HR Administration & ER Exposure: Proven background operating as an HR Assistant, HR Administrator, or junior HR Advisor with hands-on exposure to ER processes and grievance procedures.
  • Exceptional Note-Taking Skills: Fast, accurate minute-taking and record-keeping ability during sensitive and formal meetings.
  • Document Drafting: Strong written communication skills with the capability to produce high-quality, professional HR letters and formal documentation.
  • Recruitment Experience: Prior experience assisting with end-to-end internal recruitment, candidate shortlisting, or agency coordination.
  • Systems & Organisational Skills: Proficient with modern HR systems, ATS platforms, and Microsoft Office, paired with high attention to detail.
  • Availability: Immediately available or on a short notice period to start on-site in Sheffield ASAP.
