Do you THRIVE when working in an environment where managers and leaders have a high stake in the People agenda, and where healthy challenge is the norm?

Can you influence and challenge leaders of all levels, and forge strong relationships to achieve excellent results, in a challenging environment where the options and way forward are not clear cut?

Can you effectively juggle varied and often complex generalist work with interesting and forward-looking strategic objectives and projects?

If the answers are yes, then we’d love to hear from you.

This is an opportunity to join an organisation that is ambitious and innovative in approach but with social values you can be proud of. We are looking for someone to become a valued member of a vibrant People & OD team who will help us deliver the People Strategy “Embrace Change, Enable Transformation” through being an integral, strategic partner to SHG’s Management / Leadership teams.

This is a strategic role that is embedded within specific business areas, leading on workforce planning and supporting organisational change. We are looking for an experienced HR Business Partner who has a track record of success in a similar role within a large and complex organisation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
