I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The personality matters
More than anything, we’re looking for drive and attitude. You’ll be someone who:
- Gets stuck in. You’re happy doing the detail as well as contributing to bigger People projects.
- Thrives in the chaos. You can prioritise, stay calm and keep things moving when there are 20 things happening at once.
- Wants to grow. You’re ambitious and hungry to learn, with the opportunity to work closely with senior People colleagues and build your strategic HR skillset.
- Is commercially curious. You understand that HR exists to support the people and the success of the business.
- Takes ownership. You see something that needs doing and get on with it rather than waiting to be asked.
- Enjoys people. You’re approachable, confident and comfortable building relationships across a diverse and fast-paced organisation.
We’re expecting a high level of interest in this role, so unfortunately we’ll only be able to respond to candidates who are shortlisted. Thank you so much for taking the time to apply!
