HR Business Partner
Downpatrick
£39,761 per annum - 1 Year Fixed-Term Contract | 36 Hours per Week
About the Role
Hatched Recruitment Group is working with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council to appoint an experienced HR Business Partner to their Corporate Services team on a 1 year fixed-term contract.
This role sits at the centre of the Council's HR function, providing trusted, confidential HR advice and business partnering support across an assigned directorate. It is a broad generalist position covering employee relations, recruitment, attendance management and casework, with genuine scope to influence policy and practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist, proactive HR advice to managers on policy, procedure and employment law
- Manage employee relations casework end-to-end, including discipline, grievance, dignity at work and capability
- Lead on recruitment activity, including chairing selection panels and advising on selection methods
- Liaise with trade unions and staff representatives through formal consultation mechanisms
- Support Freedom of Information and Data Protection request responses
- Monitor and report on attendance management for the assigned area, working alongside Occupational Health
- Provide rotational cover for the HR Manager
- Represent the Council at Employment Tribunal and Court proceedings as required
- Contribute to the development of the HR Strategy and associated business plans

Candidate Requirements
- Demonstrable experience as a generalist HR Business Partner or HR Advisor
- Strong working knowledge of employment law, HR policy and best practice
- Experience managing complex employee relations casework independently
- Experience working with trade unions or staff representative bodies, ideally within local government or the public sector
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills
- Eligibility to work in the UK

Salary and Benefits
- £39,761 per annum (based on £21.24 per hour, PAYE)
- 36 hours per week
- 1 year fixed-term contract, with a start date of 1 September 2026
- Weekly pay
- Holiday accrued in line with statutory entitlement
- Pension auto-enrolment (subject to eligibility)
