Job Description
You’re an experienced HR professional who enjoys being close to the day-to-day work but also wants the opportunity to shape what comes next. This could be a genuinely interesting move for you.
Partnering closely with the HR Director, you’ll lead the day-to-day HR service, manage and develop two HR Executives and provide trusted, practical advice to directors and managers across the organisation.
There are good foundations in place, but also plenty of scope for you to bring greater structure, consistency and forward planning. You’ll be able to make the role your own, develop your team and contribute to talent, organisational development and wider people priorities from the outset.
As the HR function continues to develop, there is genuine potential for you to take on more strategic responsibility, gain greater exposure to senior leadership and step up in the HR Director’s absence.
What you’ll be doing
- Leading complex employee relations and performance matters with confidence, fairness and good judgement
- Coaching and supporting managers to handle people matters more effectively
- Managing and developing two HR Executives, setting clear priorities and helping them grow in confidence
- Leading the annual HR cycle, including objectives, performance reviews and development planning
- Overseeing core HR operations, systems, reporting, payroll, pensions and benefits activity
- Strengthening talent, succession and management development
- Improving HR processes and ways of working
- Deputising as the senior HR contact when the HR Director is unavailable

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What you’ll bring

- A CIPD qualification, or progress towards one, would also be welcome.
