HR Business Partner - Stand alone
Ulverston | Up to £55,000 | Full-time, Office-based
Are you an experienced HR professional looking for a role where you can genuinely influence how a business develops, supports and retains its people?
We are working with one of our long-standing clients to recruit an HR BP for their established business in Ulverston. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys the variety of a broad HR generalist role, combining hands-on employee support with the opportunity to shape and deliver people-focused initiatives at a senior level.
As the sole HR professional, you will have responsibility for the full employee lifecycle, working closely with the senior leadership team and managers across the business. You will be a trusted point of contact for all people-related matters, providing practical advice, driving improvements and ensuring the business has the right people, processes and policies in place to support its continued success.
What will you be doing?
This is a varied position where no two days are likely to be the same. Your responsibilities will include:
- Taking ownership of the recruitment process, from identifying staffing requirements and attracting candidates through to selection, onboarding and induction.
- Working alongside managers to understand workforce requirements, develop talent pipelines and support succession planning.
- Providing expert guidance on employee relations matters, including disciplinary and grievance procedures, absence management, performance concerns and capability issues.
- Supporting managers with effective people management, performance reviews, objective setting and employee development.
- Developing and implementing HR initiatives that improve employee engagement, retention, wellbeing and workplace culture.
- Advising the leadership team on organisational development, workforce planning and people-related business decisions.
- Reviewing and maintaining HR policies, procedures and employee documentation to ensure compliance with current employment legislation.
- Overseeing salary benchmarking, annual pay reviews and employee benefits to ensure reward arrangements remain competitive and consistent.
- Identifying training needs and coordinating development opportunities to support employee progression and organisational capability.
- Supporting business change and improvement projects, ensuring employees are effectively communicated with and supported throughout.
- Maintaining accurate HR records and systems, producing management reports and analysing workforce trends to support decision-making.
- Working collaboratively with management on wider compliance matters, including Health & Safety requirements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
