HR Business Partner
Derby | £50,000–£55,000
UK, Ireland and France remit
We’re recruiting an experienced HR Business Partner for a growing technology business entering an important stage of its development.
This is a newly created, hands-on role offering the opportunity to shape the company’s people approach as it moves from informal, founder-led ways of working towards a more structured and consistent HR function.
You’ll work closely with the CFO, COO and senior leadership team, combining strategic business partnering with day-to-day delivery. From employee relations and workforce planning to management development, performance and engagement, you’ll help build the processes and capability the business needs to grow—without losing the pace and culture that have contributed to its success.
The role is based in Derby and will support employees across the UK, Ireland and France, with occasional travel as required. You’ll also manage the Office Manager.
What you’ll be responsible for
- Partnering with senior leaders on workforce planning, organisational structure, skills gaps, cost and people-related risk
- Acting as a trusted and appropriately challenging adviser to managers and directors
- Leading employee relations matters including performance, absence, conduct, grievances, disciplinaries, flexible working and exits
- Coaching managers to handle people matters and difficult conversations confidently
- Improving recruitment, onboarding, probation and employee lifecycle processes
- Establishing a clear performance-management framework
- Developing practical learning, management-development and succession-planning programmes
- Producing meaningful people data covering headcount, turnover, absence, ER activity and key risks
- Reviewing HR policies, systems, suppliers, benefits and working practices
- Maintaining consistent group-wide standards while coordinating local employment advice for Ireland and France
- Managing and developing the Office Manager

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Direct experience of employment matters in Ireland or France would be useful but isn’t essential. What matters most is your ability to coordinate specialist local advisers and ensure their guidance is implemented effectively.
Why consider this opportunity?
This isn’t a role focused solely on maintaining established processes. You’ll have the opportunity to build a stronger people function, influence senior leadership and make a visible contribution to the company’s next stage of growth.
You’ll be joining a successful and evolving business where HR will play an increasingly important role in strengthening management capability, improving employee experience and supporting sustainable growth.
