HR Consultant - Fixed Term Contract for 12 months

Dundee

At Thorntons Law, every moment matters. Join our People Team and you’ll feel inspired. You’ll feel connected. You’ll feel like you belong. And it all begins from the moment you join us.

That’s because we’ve created a different kind of law firm. Here, you’ll build relationships with clients and colleagues that really last. You’ll help shape what happens now, and what comes next. And we’ll support and encourage you to be the best you can be.

This is what life at Thorntons is all about. And this is your moment to be part of it.

About the role

As HR Consultant, you will play a key role in supporting Thorntons’ People function during an exciting period of development and change. Working closely with the Chief People Officer and wider People leadership team, you will provide hands-on HR support across a variety of areas, helping to strengthen our people practices, improve ways of working and deliver a range of priority projects.

This is a varied role that will give you the opportunity to work across Talent Acquisition, Reward & Policy, People Operations and Learning & Development, as well as supporting organisational design, change activity and the implementation of a new HRIS system. You will work closely with colleagues across the People function and the wider firm, providing practical advice and helping to turn people priorities into effective action.

The role would suit an experienced HR professional who enjoys variety, can build strong relationships quickly and is comfortable moving between day-to-day HR matters and longer-term projects.

You don’t need to have experience in every area listed below - we are looking for someone with a strong HR foundation, a pragmatic approach and the curiosity and adaptability who may get involved across a broad range of activity.

It’s about:

  • HR Generalist Support - providing practical HR advice across a range of people matters, including employee relations, performance, capability, policies and ways of working.
  • People Projects & Change - supporting the CPO and People leadership team with organisational design, workforce planning and change initiatives, helping to ensure projects are well planned, communicated and successfully implemented.
  • HRIS Implementation - supporting the implementation of a new HRIS system, including process mapping, gathering requirements, stakeholder engagement, testing, communications, training and adoption.
  • People Operations - working with the People Operations team to improve processes, documentation, governance and service delivery across the employee lifecycle.
  • Reward & Policy - supporting policy reviews, reward processes, benchmarking activity and the implementation of agreed changes.
  • Talent Acquisition - partnering with Talent Acquisition to support workforce planning, recruitment processes, role clarity and onboarding improvements.
  • Learning & Development - working with Learning & Development to identify capability needs and support development, engagement and change adoption initiatives.
  • Collaboration - working closely with the wider People team and colleagues across the firm, joining up activity and ensuring our people priorities are aligned with business needs.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
