We're looking for a HR Consultant to join our specialist HR consultancy service, acting as a trusted adviser to clients across the health and care sector on their most complex and sensitive people challenges.

The role

As an HR Consultant – Health, Care and Life Sciences, you'll be joining one of the most established and respected health, care and life sciences practices in the country, working as part of a genuinely distinctive integrated team that brings together experienced HR professionals and specialist employment lawyers under one roof. Working alongside our Senior HR Consultant, you will be the specialist to whom clients turn when they face their most complex and sensitive people challenges, bringing a deep command of employee relations practice and a thorough understanding of the health and care sector. The role is based in Birmingham or Manchester.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading complex ER casework end-to-end: providing a solution-focused, pragmatic HR advisory service across the full range of employee relations matters, including disciplinary and grievance, capability, absence management, whistleblowing, safeguarding-related HR issues, redundancy, restructure, and TUPE, and managing casework from initial instruction through investigation, report writing, and hearing management.
  • Developing the Health HR practice: contributing to the development of health-specific HR policies, procedures, and precedent documentation, designing and delivering HR training to clients across the health and care sector, and collaborating with the Senior HR Consultant to grow the practice's products, processes, and service offer.
  • Building your sector profile: contributing to webinars and sector events, writing articles and advisory briefings for Browne Jacobson platforms and sector publications, and supporting business development activity with your technical expertise and sector authority.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
