My client is an established international alternative investment firm looking for an HR Generalist to join its London-based HR team on a 13–14 month maternity cover contract.
The business has an international presence and offers a professional, collaborative working environment.
Reporting to the Head of HR, this is a broad and hands-on role supporting employees and managers across the business. The successful candidate will be involved in the full range of day-to-day HR operations, including employee lifecycle activity, HR systems, documentation, payroll support, and ongoing process improvement.

- Provide an initial point of contact for employees and managers on a wide range of routine HR matters.
- Oversee day-to-day HR administration, ensuring queries are resolved promptly or referred to the appropriate member of the team.
- Keep employee information accurate and up to date within the HR system, and produce both scheduled and ad hoc people reports.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
