About Curveball
Curveball is looking for an experienced, hands-on HR Manager to create clear internal ownership of our people agenda. This is a practical, sleeves-rolled-up role: the HR Manager will personally handle the core HR administration as well as improving management capability, performance, culture, consistency and people processes.
The Role
- Partner with the CEO, Executive Team and managers to turn business priorities and company values into a practical people plan and consistent management standards.
- Own the quality of recruitment, onboarding, probation, performance management, development, succession and retention processes.
- Coach managers through performance, attendance, conduct and employee-relations matters; use our specialist support providers for advice and ensure agreed actions are implemented consistently.
- Build useful people reporting covering headcount, recruitment, turnover, absence, probation, performance/development, training, engagement and material risks.
- Strengthen manager capability and accountability through practical coaching, tools, training and clear minimum standards.
- Own the internal HR operating model end to end: personally complete core HR administration, maintain effective disciplines, using specialist outsourced support providers to ensure accurate/timely people inputs into the outsourced payroll process.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
