Job Title

HR Manager

Summary

We are looking for an experienced and hands-on HR Manager to lead the HR function from their Teesside office. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an engineering or project-delivery environment and wants to shape practical HR solutions for a growing organisation. You’ll play a key role in managing employee relations, driving engagement, and delivering robust HR policies to support future growth.

Location and Working Pattern

Office-based in Teesside with site engagement as needed.

Client Overview

Our client delivers engineering and construction services for major infrastructure projects across multiple sectors, including Offshore Wind, Power & Renewables, Oil & Gas, Nuclear, Defence, and Data Centres. They work in close partnership with their clients to provide proven solutions to some of the most complex engineering challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and develop the HR team, ensuring accountability for delivery.
  • Handle employee relations issues professionally, including disciplinary and grievance cases.
  • Partner with operational leaders on workforce planning across multiple projects.
  • Design and implement proportionate HR policies and procedures to support business needs.
  • Oversee recruitment and resourcing for office and project-based teams.
  • Manage pay, terms and conditions for site staff, including application of NAECI where relevant.
  • Drive employee engagement, culture, and retention initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation and support HSQE on people-related matters.
  • Report on HR metrics, workforce risk, and trends to the senior leadership team.

Must-have Requirements

  • Proven HR management experience within engineering, construction, or a similar sector.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK employment law.
  • Confidence to manage employee relations cases effectively.
  • Previous experience managing and developing a team.
  • Ability to communicate assertively and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Track record of implementing practical HR policy suitable for a growing business.

Nice-to-have Skills

  • Familiarity with the NAECI (National Agreement for the Engineering Construction Industry).
  • CIPD qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting a mobile or site-based workforce.
