Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage and develop the HR team, delegating effectively and holding the team accountable for delivery
  • Act as a point of contact for employee relations, with the confidence and experience to handle disciplinary, grievance or performance-related matters fairly and professionally, should they arise
  • Partner with project and site leadership to support workforce planning across project portfolio (offshore wind, power, oil & gas, nuclear and other sectors)
  • Design, implement and embed practical, proportionate HR policies and procedures appropriate to a business of the clients size, balancing legal compliance with operational pace
  • Own recruitment and resourcing for office and site-based roles, working closely with hiring managers across the business
  • Manage pay, terms and conditions matters for site-based engineering construction employees, including familiarity with national and sector agreements such as NAECI (National Agreement for the Engineering Construction Industry) where relevant
  • Drive employee engagement, culture and retention initiatives suited to a hands-on, delivery-focused engineering and construction business
  • Ensure compliance with employment law and work closely with the HSQE function on people-related health & safety matters
  • Report on HR metrics, workforce risk and employee relations trends to the senior leadership team

Essential Requirements

  • Background in engineering, construction or a related project-delivery environment, with a genuine understanding of site culture, project pressures and the workforce employs
  • Confident, vocal and assertive communication style, comfortable challenging senior stakeholders and holding ground under pressure
  • Confidence and experience to handle sensitive employee relations matters — disciplinary, grievance or performance-related — calmly and professionally when required
  • Experience managing a team, delegating effectively and holding people accountable for delivery
  • A strong people person, able to build trust and rapport across all levels of the business, from site operatives to senior leadership
  • Track record of implementing practical, proportionate HR policy and procedure for a business of a similar size to the client
  • Sound working knowledge of UK employment law

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience working within the NAECI (National Agreement for the Engineering Construction Industry) framework
  • CIPD qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Experience in a business with a significant site-based or mobile workforce
