HR Officer

Company Overview

Re-Gen Waste is a leading waste management and recycling company based in Newry, Northern Ireland, specialising in Mixed Dry Recycling, household and residual waste processing, and alternative fuel production (RDF/SRF). We operate one of Europe's most advanced Materials Recovery Facilities, turning waste into valuable resources for local authorities and commercial customers across the UK and Ireland.

We are currently going through a period of significant growth, and to support this we're expanding our HR team with a new HR Officer role based in Newry. This is a great opportunity to join a dynamic, family-owned business at a pivotal stage of expansion, playing a key role in building and supporting our growing workforce.

Overall Purpose of Job

This is a hands-on generalist HR role, and you'll be the go-to HR contact for the managers and teams you support. You'll advise and coach them across the whole employee lifecycle, building close working relationships along the way.

You'll also play a key part in building a brand-new workforce. You'll take new starters from offer through to fully trained employee, covering contracts, right-to-work checks, onboarding, induction and training records, all to a fixed go-live date. If you enjoy delivering against a clear deadline and seeing your work make a real difference, this is the role for you.

Main Responsibilities

  • Advising and coaching managers on policy, performance, absence and probation
  • Managing employee relations cases, including absence, capability, disciplinary and grievance, from start to finish
  • Issuing contracts and variation letters, carrying out right-to-work checks and managing onboarding and inductions
  • Working with our Recruitment Officer on campaigns, shortlisting and interviews
  • Supporting our apprenticeship programme, including placements, reviews and development
  • Keeping accurate HR records and payroll inputs, and contributing to our monthly HR reporting
  • Supporting policy updates, employment law changes and engagement and wellbeing activity

What we are looking for

  • 2+ years proven experience in a generalist HR role
  • Experience handling employee relations cases, contracts and right-to-work checks
  • Working knowledge of Northern Ireland employment law and GDPR
  • Strong organisation skills and close attention to detail, with the ability to juggle competing priorities
  • A proactive, practical approach and the confidence to build relationships with managers at all levels
  • A full driving licence
  • CIPD Level 5 (or working towards it) and experience in waste, logistics or manufacturing would be a bonus
