HR Officer
Position: HR Officer
Salary: £15.10 per hour
Location: Preston, office based
Hours: 25 hours per week, with flexibility on working hours and days
Contract: Fixed term, five months
Closing date: Friday 16 October 2026
About the role
This is an opportunity to bring your HR experience to a charity that supports people with learning disabilities, autism and mental health needs.
Reporting to the HR Manager, you will provide additional support during a busy period, with a particular focus on employee relations, employment law compliance and HR reporting. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Managing employee relations cases from start to resolution, including disciplinary, grievance and absence matters.
- Advising managers on HR policies, procedures and employment law, helping them reach fair and consistent decisions.
- Supporting day-to-day HR operations and responding promptly to staff queries.
- Helping ensure policies and practices reflect recent legislative changes.
- Collecting, analysing and reporting HR data, including absence, staff turnover and employee engagement, to support workforce planning.

About you
You will be an experienced HR professional who can get up to speed quickly, manage competing priorities and handle sensitive situations with care and confidence.
You will bring:
- A CIPD qualification, preferably Level 5 or above.
- Proven experience managing employee relations cases through to resolution.
- Strong knowledge of UK employment law, including recent updates.
- Experience collecting, analysing and reporting HR data.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
- A professional, discreet approach and strong organisational skills.
- Previous experience in the care or charity sector would be an advantage.
