Role Description

The Human Resources Officer is a part-time, on-site role based at Ilkley Grammar School in Ilkley. This position is responsible for supporting day-to-day HR operations, including maintaining accurate staff records, processing contract changes, and assisting with recruitment and onboarding activities. The role involves advising leaders and staff on HR policies and procedures, promoting positive employee relations, and ensuring compliance with relevant employment legislation and school policies. The Human Resources Officer will help develop and update job descriptions, support performance management processes, and coordinate HR documentation and communication. The role requires regular collaboration with school leadership, teaching staff, and support staff to ensure consistent, fair, and effective HR practices across the academy.

  • Strong foundation in Human Resources (HR) and HR Management, with experience in school or public sector settings beneficial.
  • Knowledge of HR Policies and procedures, including compliance with UK employment law and safeguarding obligations.
  • Experience in Employee Relations, including supporting staff, handling queries, and contributing to a positive workplace culture.
  • Ability to develop, review, and maintain clear and accurate Job Description Development and HR documentation.
  • Relevant HR qualification (e.g., CIPD Level 3 or equivalent) or significant practical HR experience in an administrative or officer role.
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and attention-to-detail skills, with the ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels.
  • Competence in using HR information systems and standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office). Experience in an educational environment is an advantage.
