HV Primary Plant Design Engineer – Power & Renewables
I'm working with an established international engineering contractor delivering major power and renewable energy projects across the UK and Europe. They are looking for an experienced HV Main Plant Design Engineer to join their growing engineering team.
This is a key role focused on the design and development of HV substation primary plant systems, supporting projects from early design through to construction, commissioning and handover.
The Role
- Lead primary plant design for 33kV–400kV substations
- Produce layouts and detailed designs for busbars, circuit breakers, disconnectors, CTs/VTs and associated equipment
- Develop general arrangements, equipment elevations and cable/conduit routing
- Coordinate with civil, protection, control and secondary systems teams
- Support technical specifications, procurement and vendor reviews
- Participate in design reviews and HAZID/HAZOP workshops
- Provide technical support through construction and commissioning
- Liaise with clients, project managers and wider stakeholders

About You
- Degree/HND in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- 5+ years’ HV substation primary plant design experience
- Strong AIS/GIS substation knowledge
- Experience with AutoCAD, Primtech or similar
- Knowledge of National Grid, IEC or relevant standards
- Strong understanding of clearances, earthing/grounding and insulation coordination
- Chartered or working towards Chartered status is desirable
