We're Hiring: HV Substation Protection & Control Design Engineer
Location: Bellshill, Scotland
Employment: Permanent | Full-time

We’re looking for an experienced HV Substation Protection & Control (P&C) Design Engineer to join an established engineering team and play a key role in the design and delivery of protection, control and automation systems for critical HV infrastructure.
You’ll work across challenging transmission and distribution projects, developing robust solutions for HV substations and working alongside clients, utilities, contractors, consultants and equipment manufacturers.
What you’ll be doing
- Designing HV protection & control systems for transformers, transmission lines, busbars and switchgear
- Developing protection philosophies, relay settings, control schematics and interlocking schemes
- Producing detailed drawings, schedules, specifications and technical documentation
- Supporting SCADA, RTU and substation automation integration
- Developing and reviewing IEC 61850 communication architectures
- Undertaking protection coordination, fault analysis and power system studies
- Reviewing third-party engineering designs and technical documentation
- Supporting FAT, SAT, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting
- Contributing to design reviews and multidisciplinary engineering coordination

What we’re looking for
- Degree/HND/HNC in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Proven experience in HV Substation Protection & Control design
- Strong knowledge of electrical protection, control and substation automation
- Experience with transformer, line, busbar and switchgear protection
- Understanding of IEC, IEEE and ANSI standards
- Knowledge of IEC 61850 and modern substation communications
- Experience with software such as ETAP, DIgSILENT, EPLAN, Helinks or similar
- Ability to produce and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills
