The position

RES currently provides High Voltage Operations and Maintenance (HV O&M) Services to renewable energy assets in the UK & Ireland. Due to increased demand from our clients, we are seeking an HV Technician (Fitter/Jointer/AP) ideally 33kV to grow and improve this service.

The HV Technician is a site-based role performing Operation & Maintenance along with installation and repair duties on utility-scale solar/wind and battery storage sites. There will be an element of home/office working for other duties.

Ideally the candidate will be a fully qualified 33kV Fitter/Jointer with experience installing, maintaining, and repairing utility-scale renewable sites/equipment.

You will need to be located near/travel to operational plants and have a full driving licence. This is a permanent role and will require availability for weekend.

A company vehicle, phone and laptop/tablet will be provided. An overtime system is in place. RES provides a comprehensive package of benefits including contributory pension, private health insurance and investment in role specific training.

Accountabilities

  • Always adherence to health and safety requirements and help to maintain and improve safety standards.
  • Achieve and maintain Competent Person status, ideally AP.
  • Become fully conversant and make sure that all works are undertaken in accordance with the RES Electrical & Mechanical Safety Rules and Safety Rule Instructions.
  • Undertaking planned inspection and maintenance of HV Equipment according to legal, technical, manufacturer and contractual requirements.
  • Carry out Cable jointing or termination works as required up to 33kV.
  • Installation of new equipment up to 33kV.
  • Repair of equipment up to 33kV.
  • Writing maintenance and inspection reports.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and fault-finding on RES controlled plant/equipment.
  • Assist with fault resolution in a timely manner.
  • Keeping accurate maintenance records and compiling reports.
  • Occasionally assisting with ground maintenance or mechanical work.
  • Keeping in close communication with the O&M office.
  • Reacting to emergencies, site outages and changing circumstances.
  • Occasionally working away from home for training courses or to cover RES controlled sites in other geographical areas where required.
  • Other duties commensurate with the role.

Knowledge

Essential

  • HV Safe Systems of Work.
  • Knowledge of HV equipment and the ability to identify potential issues.
  • Cable Jointing and termination up to 33kV.
  • Equipment install up to 33kV.

Skills

Essential

  • Strong approach to safe working practices.
  • Able to install/maintain various types of HV plant/equipment.
  • Able to joint and terminate cables up to 33kV.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good people skills.
  • Ability to identify problems, conduct analysis and develop solutions.

Desirable

  • Able to use equipment for testing suitable for the role.

Experience

  • Switchgear fitting experience.
  • Transformer install.
  • Cable Jointing and termination.
  • Dead testing on HV Plant.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Previously held fitting/jointing authorisation under high voltage electrical safety rules.
  • Experience in engineering or other relevant qualification, or equivalent industry experience.
  • CITB SSSTS or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Holds or previously held Fitting/Jointing authorisations under DNO Safety Rules.
