Our client is a London based Fintech scale up with operations across Europe, Asia and South Americas.
About the role
Working hybrid in central London office (3 days per week), you will be leading team of 8 to 12 engineers.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage and support a team of backend engineers, covering performance, coaching, feedback, and career development
- Work with Product, Compliance, and Engineering teams to deliver secure and efficient onboarding solutions
- Promote clean architecture, security, automation, and maintainability across backend systems
- Take ownership of team delivery, system reliability, engineering processes, and continuous improvement
- Support roadmap definition, prioritisation, and technical planning
- Guide engineers through complex technical and architectural decisions
- Contribute to recruitment, onboarding, and capacity planning as the team grows

Job Requirements
- 1-3 years of engineering management experience, including performance and career development
- 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, preferably with backend systems using Java, Kotlin, or similar technologies
- Strong experience with systems design, particularly high-throughput, secure, or regulated environments
- Understanding of automation-first development and reducing manual, error-prone processes
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience working with Agile development methodologies in fast-paced, high-stakes environments
- Pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset with a strong sense of ownership and bias for action
