About the Role

AECOM’s UK&I Water Resources team supports public and private-sector clients across flood risk, water management, and infrastructure projects of all scales. As part of a dynamic team of 100+ experts, the Bristol Water Resources hub focuses on hydraulic modelling and flood risk projects. We are recruiting a Consultant Hydraulic Modeller to support the Bristol team’s expansion and drive impactful water solutions.

Your Next Steps: What You’ll Do

As a Consultant Hydraulic Modeller, you’ll:

  • Technical delivery: Lead 1D-2D hydraulic flood modelling for fluvial, surface water, and tidal flood risk assessments, including:
    • Hydraulic models (Flood Modeller Pro, TUFLOW, InfoWorks ICM)
    • Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs)
    • Environmental statements
    • SUDS design
    • Strategic water management strategies
  • Collaborative problem-solving: Work closely with AECOM’s Water team, graduate modellers, and clients to meet project objectives.
  • Client & regulator liaison: Ensure technical solutions align with public-sector requirements.
  • Team mentorship: Foster skill development in junior team members.
  • Budget & programme adherence: Deliver high-quality projects on schedule and within budgets.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Degree (2:1 or better): Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Technical modelling expertise: Hands-on experience with 1D/2D hydraulic modelling tools (Flood Modeller Pro, TUFLOW, InfoWorks ICM).
  • GIS proficiency: Experience with QGIS, ArcGIS, or MapInfo.
  • Project delivery track record: Expertise in generating comprehensive technical deliverables for flood risk assessments or water management projects, with reporting for stakeholders/regulators.
  • Client management: Experience liaising with public/private sector clients and regulators under tight deadlines.
  • Budget-conscious approach: Ability to scope, execute, and monitor projects to defined budgets and programmes.
  • Collaborative leadership: Engaging team presence and commitment to mentoring junior colleagues.

Desirable:

  • Advanced degree (M.Sc./Ph.D): Relevant to water resources, hydrology, or engineering.
  • Working towards EU Accreditation: ICE/CIWEM Chartership.
  • Hydrological experience: Advanced techniques such as WINFAP-FEH/ReFH2 flow estimation.
