Pay Rate: £16.00 per hour

Working Pattern:

  • Sunday 6am–6pm, then Monday to Wednesday 6am–3pm
  • Tuesday to Friday 6am–3pm, then Saturday 6am–6pm

Hours: 39 hours per week

Reporting to: Contract Manager

About The Role

We are looking for a reliable and proactive Plant Hygiene Supervisor to join the hygiene team at Pladis / McVitie's Carlisle.

This role will focus on supervising plant and line cleaning activities across production areas, ensuring hygiene tasks are completed safely, correctly, and to the required food manufacturing standard.

You will be responsible for leading hygiene operatives, allocating daily cleaning tasks, checking standards, supporting documentation completion, and ensuring production lines are cleaned, inspected, and ready for handover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise plant and line hygiene operatives during cleaning activities.
  • Allocate daily cleaning tasks in line with schedules and site priorities.
  • Ensure production lines, equipment, conveyors, guards, framework, and surrounding areas are cleaned to the required standard.
  • Monitor cleaning progress and take corrective action where standards are not met.
  • Ensure Cleaning Work Instructions, safe systems of work, and site procedures are followed.
  • Support completion of hygiene records, task sheets, and sign-off documentation.
  • Promote safe working, PPE compliance, COSHH controls, and food safety standards.
  • Report defects, missed cleans, damaged equipment, contamination risks, or safety concerns.
  • Support training, coaching, and day-to-day team performance.
  • Communicate effectively with hygiene, production, engineering, and technical teams.

What We Are Looking For

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Previous experience in hygiene, cleaning, food manufacturing, or production environments.
  • Experience supervising, leading, or supporting a team.
  • Good understanding of plant, line, or equipment cleaning.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards.
  • Good communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to work safely and challenge unsafe behaviours.
  • Confidence to manage priorities during busy cleaning windows.
  • A reliable, flexible, and professional approach.

Previous food manufacturing hygiene experience would be highly beneficial.
