Hygiene Supervisor - Wrexham (on site) - Nights - 4 on/4 off
Job Title: Hygiene Supervisor
Location: Wrexham on site
Reporting to: Hygiene Manager – Nights (8:00pm to 6:00am)
Contract Type: Permanent – 4on/4off
Direct Reports: Hygiene Charge Hand / Hygiene Operatives
Role Overview:
The Hygiene Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating all cleaning and sanitation activities within the food manufacturing facility. This role ensures that hygiene standards comply with food safety regulations, customer requirements, and company policies. The Hygiene Supervisor manages hygiene staff, oversees cleaning schedules, conducts inspections, and supports continuous improvement initiatives to maintain a safe and hygienic production environment.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
Hygiene & Sanitation Management
- Supervise and coordinate daily cleaning and sanitation activities across production, warehouse, and ancillary areas.
- Ensure all cleaning tasks are completed according to established sanitation procedures and schedules.
- Verify the correct use, storage, and handling of cleaning chemicals and sanitation equipment.
- Monitor hygiene standards throughout the facility and take corrective action when required.
- Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP, and food safety standards.

Team Leadership
- Lead, train, motivate, and develop the hygiene team.
- Conduct staff inductions and ongoing hygiene and food safety training.
- Allocate work assignments and monitor team performance.
- Manage attendance, scheduling, and overtime requirements as needed.
- Promote a positive safety culture and high standards of housekeeping.
Compliance & Auditing
- Conduct routine hygiene inspections and documented verification checks.
- Support internal, customer, and third-party audits.
- Ensure cleaning records and sanitation documentation are completed accurately and maintained.
- Investigate hygiene-related non-conformances and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Assist with environmental monitoring and verification activities where required.
Health, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities
- Ensure all hygiene activities are carried out safely and in accordance with Health & Safety regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments related to cleaning activities.
- Ensure the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Report and investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses.
- Promote safe chemical handling and COSHH compliance.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve cleaning efficiency, effectiveness, and resource utilization.
- Review sanitation procedures and recommend improvements.
- Work closely with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to resolve hygiene-related issues.
- Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement projects.

Experience and Qualifications:
Essential
- Previous experience in a food manufacturing or food processing environment.
- Experience supervising or leading a hygiene, sanitation, or cleaning team.
- Knowledge of food safety systems, including HACCP and GMP.
- Understanding of cleaning chemicals, sanitation methods, and hygiene verification techniques.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends or night shifts if required.
Desirable
- Food Safety Level 3 qualification (or equivalent).
- HACCP certification.
- COSHH training.
- Internal Auditor qualification.
- Experience working with BRCGS, ISO 22000, or similar food safety standards.
