E3 Engineering Role in Security & Resilience
This role is an E3 engineering role within Security & Resilience - Security Transformation Engineering Team. It will initially be focused solely on the IBM Guardium product support for security. An E3 role will be setting an example to engineers and providing a point of escalation, support, and assurance where required.
IBM Guardium is a critical security and compliance capability used to support database activity monitoring across databases. The platform supports multiple environments, including Development, Testing, and Production, and covers key database technologies including IBM Db2 for z/OS, SAP HANA, and Microsoft SQL Server.
The post holder will champion platform stability, efficiency, resilience, and continual improvement, ensuring that critical database security tooling is robust, reliable, and aligned to the organisation’s strategic needs.
A key function of the role will be to lead the uplift, modernisation, and long-term evolution of the IBM Guardium capability.

For this role, you'll be based at your nearest regional office or hub. We value time spent together to connect with colleagues for collaboration, so there will be a regular requirement to attend our Swindon site approximately once per quarter. If you are based at an office location, you'll be expected to meet our hybrid working requirement of at least two days a week, or 40% of your working time if part-time, in the office. If you’re based at our Glasgow office, this will apply from 1 April 2027 and ahead of that there will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events. RESPONSIBILITIES
What you’ll be doing
This role is responsible for the stability, security, and strategic development of the IBM Guardium platform, including Guardium appliances, Guardium Central Manager, aggregators, collectors, Guardium Installation Manager, and Guardium agents/S-TAPs. The role ensures that all components are effectively maintained, configured, governed, and continuously improved.
The role will lead the ongoing operation of activities including incident management, platform health checks, patching, upgrades, disaster recovery support, certificate management, data archive housekeeping, audit data retrieval, service status reporting, and IBM Support coordination.

The role will have line management responsibilities.
Engineers in this function collaborate closely with stakeholders such as IT Operations, Infrastructure Hosting, Database Services, Security Operations, IBM Support, and wider Security & Resilience teams to ensure the platform is resilient, efficient, and continuously improving.
About you
As a minimum requirement, you’ll have:
- Hands-on experience managing IBM Guardium or equivalent enterprise database activity monitoring/security platforms
- Deep knowledge of IBM Guardium architecture, including Central Manager, collectors, aggregators, Guardium Installation Manager, and S-TAP agents
- Proficiency in infrastructure fundamentals such as Windows, Linux, networking, virtualisation, certificates, and API-based integrations
- Ability to troubleshoot complex platform, agent, policy, integration, and performance issues across distributed environments
- Experience managing Guardium patching, fixes, upgrades, version compatibility, disaster recovery, and post-change validation
- Understanding of database technologies such as IBM Db2 for z/OS, SAP HANA, and Microsoft SQL Server
- Familiarity with automation, scripting, or systems orchestration to improve operational efficiency
- Ability to shape Guardium platform direction, roadmap, and uplift activities in alignment with Security Transformation Engineering and organisational strategy
- Experience assessing technology landscapes, identifying gaps, and recommending forward-looking improvements
- A background in an operational “run” environment for key infrastructure or security services
