The Role:

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is seeking an experienced, forward-thinking ICT Technical Manager to lead the technical direction for an essential public service.

This role leads the design, resilience, security and improvement of the Service’s technology estate, including infrastructure, cloud, networks, operational systems, supporting emergency response and public safety.

If you enjoy solving complex technical challenges, leading skilled teams, shaping strategy and delivering reliable services where technology helps save lives, we’d like to hear from you.

What You'll Be Doing

As ICT Technical Manager, you will:

  • Lead the Service’s technical strategy and architecture roadmap.
  • Provide technical leadership across infrastructure, networks, cloud, integrations and enterprise platforms.
  • Own critical operational systems supporting emergency response.
  • Lead and develop senior technical specialists and engineers.
  • Act as senior technical escalation for major incidents and service disruption.
  • Drive innovation, automation, resilience and continual improvement.
  • Work with leaders, suppliers and partners to keep services secure, effective and future-ready.
  • Champion business continuity, disaster recovery and cyber resilience.

About You

We are looking for a technical leader who can combine strategic thinking with practical delivery. You will bring strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, balancing operational support, service improvement and project delivery in a complex environment. You will be able to translate technical concepts into clear, jargon-free recommendations and show a strong commitment to service excellence, resilience and continual improvement. Ideally, you will also have a degree-level qualification or equivalent experience, ITIL knowledge, experience in public sector, emergency services or mission-critical settings, and an understanding of systems integration, service management and technology governance.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
