IDS Engineer
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Glasgow, is currently looking to recruit an IDS Engineer for a 3 months contract on a rate of £458/day (Outside IR35). This role will be based in Glasgow with flexible working arrangements.
Responsibilities
- Manage incident and request queues to ensure items are progressed and resolved within agreed SLA targets.
- Provide support across the partner Microsoft technology stack, including (but not limited to) Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Intune, Autopilot, Autopatch, Windows OS, and network management and monitoring.
- Manage and support end-user devices, including build, configuration and policy compliance.
- Provide support to major incidents activities, including technical updates and support to incident communications.
- Provide face-to-face support where additional investigation is required or where remote support is not possible.
- Improve the availability, reliability and stability of Microsoft infrastructure services.
- Carry out proactive monitoring to identify and address issues before they impact users.
- Monitor and report on the performance of partner infrastructure and Microsoft 365 services.
- Support security and compliance monitoring and reporting, producing evidence and materials as required.
- Support vulnerability and security remediation activities, implementing configuration changes and mitigations in line with agreed standards.
- Deliver patching and lifecycle activities (including pilots/rings where applicable) and report on update and configuration compliance.
- Process & Governance
- Support problem management activities, including root-cause analysis, trend analysis and the implementation of permanent fixes.
- Support change and release management, including raising and implementing changes in ServiceNow and completing post-change validation.
- Support asset and configuration management by keeping records accurate and up to date, including configuration items where applicable.
- Manage technical escalations with third-party suppliers and internal resolver groups, tracking actions through to resolution.
- Attend technical meetings, contribute expertise, and support agreed outcomes.
- Provide mentoring, support and training to 1st Line staff, helping to resolve issues within agreed timescales.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including knowledge articles, runbooks, standard build documentation and known error records.
- Identify opportunities for service improvement and automation, including the use of PowerShell and Microsoft tooling to reduce manual effort and improve service quality.
- Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and industry best practice, proactively developing skills and recommending improvements where appropriate.

Essential Skills
- Demonstrable work experience equivalent to SCQF level 7 or be educated to degree level.
- Experience of managing the Microsoft technology stack including M365 Tenants/Subscriptions, Windows 11, InTune, Active Directory, Entra ID, etc.
- Experience supporting Microsoft endpoint management (e.g., Intune, Windows build/configuration, policy/compliance).
- Experience working within an ITSM/Service Desk environment, using an ITSM tool to manage incidents/requests and meet SLAs.
- Experience participating in problem/change management (RCA, change implementation, post-change validation).
- Troubleshooting skills across identity/device join, authentication/access, and endpoint policy.
- Working knowledge of ITSM processes (incident/request/problem/change) and queue management to SLAs (since you use ServiceNow).
- Ability to produce technical documentation (KB articles/runbooks) and deliver clear technical updates.
- Understanding of monitoring/alerting and using evidence (logs/telemetry) to diagnose issues.
- Basic understanding of security & compliance controls relevant to endpoint/M365 (e.g., baselines, MFA/Conditional Access concepts).
- Customer Focused with the ability to understand and resolve technical issues.

- ITIL Foundation
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate (MD-102)
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Fundamentals
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Messaging Administrator Associate
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert
- Experience with PowerShell automation in an operational environment.
- Understanding of Networking principles
- Understanding of Security principles
- Familiarity with SIAM / supplier management and escalation practices.
- Desire to widen area of expertise and to look for personal development opportunities.
