IFRS16 Accounting Manager

Location: Theale
Working Pattern: Hybrid – 3 days per week onsite

You must be eligible to work in the UK without the need for Sponsorship.

We are partnering with a leading Telecommunications company based in Theale to recruit an experienced IFRS16 Accounting Manager / Subject Matter Expert.

This is a key role within the finance function, responsible for leading the end-to-end IFRS16 lease accounting process across a portfolio of more than 15,000 sites. You will act as the internal Subject Matter Expert for IFRS16, ensuring accurate and compliant lease accounting, robust financial controls and high-quality reporting.

The role will suit a qualified accountant with strong technical IFRS16 experience who is comfortable working with complex data, external auditors, outsourced providers and senior finance stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

IFRS16 Accounting & Reporting

  • Own the end-to-end IFRS16 process and accounting policy, ensuring consistent application of IFRS16 guidance.
  • Maintain accurate monthly IFRS16 reporting through an Excel-based lease accounting model.
  • Process monthly lease data updates and post all associated IFRS16 journals.
  • Manage the accounting treatment of lease modifications and lease impairment assessments.
  • Ensure the monthly IFRS16 close is completed accurately and on time, ahead of the WD2 reporting deadline.
  • Maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including deferred rent.
  • Develop and maintain robust controls around lease accounting and reporting.

  • Act as the key IFRS16 contact for external auditors, shareholder finance teams, outsourced providers and internal stakeholders.
  • Lead responses to external audit reviews, coordinating supporting evidence, analysis and management responses.
  • Ensure lease accounting is appropriately supported and that there are no material external audit findings.
  • Prepare technical accounting papers and position papers to support IFRS16 methodologies and accounting treatments.
  • Monitor developments in IFRS and accounting standards to ensure continued compliance.

Business & Stakeholder Management

  • Support Commercial, Legal and Property teams with advice on lease structures and contractual changes.
  • Assess the accounting implications of new site agreements and lease modifications.
  • Advise business stakeholders on the IFRS16 consequences of contractual changes.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external finance stakeholders, providing insight and resolving complex accounting queries.
  • Manage relationships with outsourced providers and drive improvements in data quality, reporting integrity and processes.

Transformation & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve IFRS16 processes, controls, data visibility and reporting.
  • Support finance transformation initiatives.
  • Act as the finance Subject Matter Expert in the implementation of a new IFRS16 lease accounting system, supporting design, testing and deployment.
  • Contribute to ad-hoc finance projects and initiatives as required.

About You

We are looking for a technically strong and commercially minded qualified accountant who can take ownership of IFRS16 accounting within a large and complex organisation.

You will ideally have:

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification.
  • 2+ years' post-qualification experience with strong exposure to IFRS16.
  • Proven experience owning IFRS16 reporting and accounting processes.
  • Experience managing and responding to external audit reviews.
  • Experience working within a large, complex organisation.
  • Strong technical understanding of IFRS16 accounting, controls and policy application.
  • Experience improving financial controls, processes and reporting.
  • Advanced Excel skills, with the ability to work with large datasets and complex financial models.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to work with senior finance teams, auditors and outsourced providers.
  • The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver to tight reporting deadlines.
