What We Are Looking For
Purpose of the Role:
The ILS Engineer will deliver the full range of Integrated Logistic Support activities across REUK's in-service product portfolio, ensuring supported systems remain supportable, available and cost-effective to maintain throughout their remaining life.
The role has a particular emphasis on supportability engineering: establishing and running a common DRACAS/FRACAS process as the evidence base that drives corrective action, spares, maintenance, and documentation decisions across the rest of the ILS discipline. This makes the role broad rather than narrow, one person feeding into both the classic ILS elements and owning the data-led supportability activity that ties them together, applied consistently across the company's supported products rather than to a single system.
Key Responsibilities:
Supportability Engineering / DRACAS-FRACAS
- Design, implement and own the DRACAS/FRACAS process: data capture, triage, root cause analysis coordination, corrective action tracking and closure.
- Chair or support regular failure review boards with engineering, quality, and supply chain stakeholders.
- Maintain the DRACAS/FRACAS database or tool, ensuring data quality, consistency and traceability.
- Produce reliability metrics and trend analysis (MTBF, MTTR, failure rate by mode) for internal and customer reporting.
- Use failure data to drive and prioritise action across the other ILS elements below, so DRACAS findings don't sit unused.
Maintenance Planning & Support Analysis:
- Develop and maintain maintenance plans, tasks and intervals (preventive and corrective) based on in-service performance and failure data.
- Conduct or support Logistic Support Analysis (LSA) and Level of Repair Analysis (LORA) for the system.
- Review and update maintenance task analysis as failure trends or design changes emerge.
Spares & Provisioning:
- Own spares provisioning and re-provisioning decisions, using failure rate data and reliability modelling to set optimal stock levels against availability targets.
- Monitor spares consumption against forecast and adjust holdings as in-service experience matures.
- Liaise with supply chain on lead times, obsolescence risk and re-order points for critical spares.

Reliability, Availability & Maintainability (RAM):
- Develop and maintain reliability/availability models using DRACAS-derived data, informing spares and maintenance decisions.
- Re-baseline MTBF/MTTR and failure rate inputs periodically to reflect real in-service performance.
Configuration Management:
- Ensure corrective actions, design changes and documentation updates arising from DRACAS or ILS activity are properly configuration-controlled.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Act as the primary point of contact for internal queries on in-service support, reliability and corrective action status.
- Represent the support function in engineering change boards, design reviews and contract review meetings as required.
What Qualifications You Should Have
Skills and Experience:
Essential:
- Experience in an ILS, supportability, or in-service support engineering role within a regulated or defence environment.
- Working knowledge of DRACAS/FRACAS principles and closed-loop corrective action processes.
- Practical experience across at least two other core ILS disciplines (e.g. maintenance planning, spares provisioning, technical publications, obsolescence management).
- Comfortable working with structured data sets and reliability metrics (Excel, databases, or dedicated ILS/reliability tools).
- Strong written and verbal communication; able to translate failure data into decisions for varied audiences (engineering, customer, supply chain, management).
- Good stakeholder management skills across engineering, supply chain and customer interfaces.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with reliability engineering concepts (MTBF, Weibull analysis, FMEA/FMECA).
- Experience with FRACAS/RAM tooling (e.g. FavoWeb, RAM Commander, OPUS10, RELEX/Windchill Quality, or similar).
- Knowledge of configuration management and technical publication amendment processes.
- Relevant qualification in engineering, reliability, or ILS/supportability (e.g. IET, CQI, or equivalent).
- Security clearance eligibility.

- Spares holdings, maintenance plans and documentation kept current with real in-service failure experience rather than original design assumptions.
- Reduced repeat failures and improved system availability over time.
- A single, coherent support picture the customer can rely on.
