This is a unique opportunity to help develop and expand our industry-leading Image Interpretation Training portfolio, supporting security screeners across aviation, critical infrastructure, corrections, transportation, and other high-security environments worldwide.
Our innovative digital training solutions are designed to take learners from having little or no experience in X-ray image interpretation through to operational competency and certification readiness. Having invested significantly in creating a world-class learning platform, we are now focused on growing and enhancing our training offering globally.
As an IIT Specialist, you will play a key role in developing training content, supporting customer engagement, delivering demonstrations and trials, gathering market intelligence, and helping shape the future of image interpretation training.

You'll combine your operational screening knowledge with a passion for learning, training, and customer engagement to help drive the continued growth of the IIT portfolio.
This role offers a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in aviation security, image interpretation, X-ray screening, or training delivery who wants to influence the next generation of security training solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and continuous improvement of Image Interpretation Training products and services.
- Contribute to the design, testing, rollout, and evaluation of new training solutions.
- Develop and enhance training content, exercises, and learning pathways for the Virtual Training Centre and other digital learning platforms.
- Maintain training documentation, user guides, and supporting materials.
- Monitor product performance and recommend enhancements based on customer and learner feedback.
Customer Engagement & Business Development
- Support customer demonstrations, workshops, product trials, proof-of-concept activities, and training events.
- Build strong relationships with customers, industry partners, and academic institutions.
- Gather customer feedback, operational requirements, and market intelligence to identify future opportunities.
- Participate in customer meetings, conferences, and industry events to promote Smiths Detection training solutions.
- Provide subject matter expertise to support bids, proposals, and commercial discussions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
