Immigration Solicitor

Central London (Chancery Lane Area) | Permanent | Minimum 3 Years PQE

The Opportunity

A well-established and highly regarded Central London law firm is looking to recruit an experienced Immigration Solicitor to join its expanding Immigration department.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious solicitor with at least 3 years' PQE who enjoys managing a broad range of immigration matters while taking on a leadership role within a busy and successful team.

As well as handling your own caseload, you will supervise junior team members, provide technical guidance, and play an important role in developing the department through excellent client service and strong commercial awareness. You'll have access to a consistent flow of enquiries, allowing you to build a successful and rewarding practice.

Key Responsibilities

Immigration Caseload

  • Manage a varied caseload of UK immigration matters from initial enquiry through to completion.
  • Advise individuals and businesses on matters including:
    • Visitor, Student, Skilled Worker and Family visa applications
    • Leave to Remain and Indefinite Leave to Remain
    • British Citizenship and Nationality applications
    • Sponsor Licence applications and ongoing compliance
    • Family and Private Life applications
    • EU Settlement Scheme applications
    • Administrative Reviews and appeals (where appropriate)
  • Prepare high-quality applications, supporting documentation, legal submissions and correspondence.
  • Liaise with clients, UKVI, the Home Office, Counsel and other third parties throughout the progression of matters.
  • Keep clients informed throughout the process, providing practical and commercially focused advice.
  • Identify complex or high-risk matters and escalate where necessary.

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise and mentor immigration paralegals and junior caseworkers.
  • Review work to ensure accuracy, quality and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Allocate work effectively and monitor departmental workloads.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and technical support to junior members of the team.
  • Carry out regular file reviews and assist with training and development.
  • Promote best practice and ensure compliance with all professional and regulatory requirements.

Client Development & Revenue Generation

  • Conduct initial client consultations and convert enquiries into retained instructions.
  • Build strong client relationships through excellent service and communication.
  • Work towards agreed monthly billing and revenue targets.
  • Maintain accurate time recording and billing practices.
  • Identify opportunities for cross-referrals across other practice areas.
  • Support networking and business development initiatives that contribute to departmental growth.

Compliance & Professional Standards

  • Keep up to date with developments in UK Immigration Law, Home Office policy and Immigration Rules.
  • Ensure compliance with SRA regulations, AML procedures and internal compliance policies.
  • Maintain accurate electronic case files and records.
  • Protect client confidentiality and adhere to GDPR requirements.
  • Report compliance or risk issues promptly where appropriate.

About You

Essential

  • Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales with a current practising certificate.
  • Minimum 3 years' PQE specialising in UK Immigration Law.
  • Strong experience across both personal and business immigration matters.
  • Ability to independently manage a busy and varied caseload.
  • Previous experience supervising or mentoring junior fee earners or support staff.
  • Excellent client care and relationship management skills.
  • Commercially aware with experience working to financial or billing targets.
  • Strong drafting, analytical and organisational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Desirable

  • Experience handling immigration appeals and more complex immigration matters.
  • Knowledge of Sponsor Licence applications and compliance work.
  • Existing referral network or client following.
  • Additional language skills would be advantageous.
  • Experience using legal case management systems.
