We are looking for a reliable and organised Import Operator to join our team in our Felixstowe location. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start and develop a career within customs.

The successful applicant will assist with the preparation and processing of customs declarations, liaise with customers and suppliers, and ensure shipments are cleared accurately and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing and processing customs clearance documentation
  • Assisting with import customs declarations
  • Checking invoices, packing lists and other relevant shipping documents
  • Entering and maintaining accurate information on internal systems
  • Liaising with customers, hauliers, freight forwarders and other relevant parties
  • Monitoring shipments and providing updates where required
  • Ensuring customs procedures and company processes are followed
  • Responding to queries by email and telephone in a professional manner
  • Maintaining accurate records and filing documentation
  • Working closely with colleagues to ensure shipments are processed efficiently
  • Keeping up to date with relevant customs procedures and requirements, with training and guidance provided

  • Previous experience in customs clearance or freight forwarding would be an advantage, but is not essential (training and support will be provided)
  • Previous experience in an office or administration environment would be advantageous
  • Proven experience using Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook and Excel
  • Organised and able to work accurately
  • Able to communicate effectively by telephone and email
  • Able to manage their workload and meet deadlines
  • Detail-oriented
  • Reliable, professional and willing to learn
  • A good team player with a positive attitude
