About the Role
Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a Trust Grade Foundation Year 1 doctor for a 6-month fixed term period commencing October 2026. This post will be based at the Aintree site, located in Fazakerley, Liverpool. The post will give the opportunity for the post holder to gain experience across the Diabetes & Endocrinology bed base over the 6-month period at Foundation Year 1 level in areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Working Monday to Friday 9-5, no on-call.
- Supporting consultant delivered patient care, including clerking, clinical assessment, ordering and chasing results, handling administrative tasks and queries, procedures, and supporting continuity of care processes.
- Providing direct clinical care to patients on the ward, including history taking and examinations, formulating differential diagnoses and management plans, requesting and interpreting diagnostic studies, and escalating to seniors where appropriate.
- Discussing ionizing radiation scans/interventions with a radiologist for vetting and can request endoscopic procedures.
- Attending formal clinic at least one per week, reviewing patients face to face, via telephone, and under close supervision of the patient’s named consultant.
- Ensuring up-to-date mandatory training, especially those related to everyday procedures carried out on the ward.
- Completing discharge summaries.
- Appropriately handing a patient over to the on-call team when required and receiving handovers.
- Providing support to the other rotating resident doctors, medical students, and PA students, including an introduction to the department, sign posting procedures, referrals, protocols, and delivering departmental teaching.

- Venepuncture
- Cannulation
- Blood cultures
- Arterial blood gases
- Catheterization
- Nasogastric tube insertion
Additional Responsibilities
- Involvement in daily board rounds as they provide continuity of care for patients.
- Participation in family discussions/updates including DNAR discussions and wider MDT meetings (e.g., best interest meetings).
- Conveying medical team input to care (after discussion with the named consultant overseeing the patient’s care).
