In-House Legal Counsel – Automotive Europe

Location: United Kingdom | Flexible and hybrid working available

The Opportunity

We’re looking for an In-House Legal Counsel to provide practical, commercially focused legal advice to our Automotive business across Europe. You’ll support teams in the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, and the Netherlands, helping the business grow while managing legal and regulatory risk.

This is a varied role with an initial focus on the UK automotive market, including extended warranty, insurance, and service contract products. You’ll also support the expansion of automotive products and distribution across Europe, working closely with Sales, Operations, Compliance, Privacy, Product, and Supply Chain colleagues.

You’ll advise on commercial contracts, distribution arrangements, product development, disputes, legislative change, and wider legal matters across the Assurant Europe business. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys partnering with stakeholders, solving problems, and making legal advice clear and actionable.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide clear legal advice that enables growth and supports informed decision-making across the business. This includes identifying legal risks, recommending practical options, and helping stakeholders navigate local regulatory requirements.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, advise on contract interpretation, and support strategic projects across multiple European markets.
  • Partner with colleagues across Legal, Compliance, Privacy, Risk, Sales, Product, Operations, and Supply Chain.
  • Support the design, review, and implementation of new products, services, and distribution models.
  • Advise on warranty, insurance, service contract, and intermediary arrangements.
  • Monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments and explain their potential business impact.
  • Work with external counsel where specialist or local advice is needed.

What You’ll Bring

  • Qualified solicitor, lawyer, or equivalent legal professional with permission to practise in England and Wales, or a comparable qualification.
  • Experience advising on commercial contracts and business-facing legal matters in a law firm, in-house environment, or both.
  • Ability to explain legal concepts clearly and provide pragmatic, risk-aware recommendations.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and confidence working with geographically dispersed teams.
  • Curiosity and adaptability in a fast-evolving, regulated business environment.
  • Knowledge of automotive, warranty, insurance, or service contract products would be helpful, but is not essential.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
