In-House Paralegal/Legal Contracts Specialist
Location: South Cambridge
Working Pattern: Hybrid – typically at least 60% onsite
Contract: Initial 3-month interim assignment
Hours: 37 hours per week, with applications from candidates seeking a minimum of 30 hours per week welcomed
Rate: Up to £180 per day via an umbrella company
The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an In-House Paralegal/Legal Contracts Specialist to join an experienced contracts team within an innovative business based just South of Cambridge.
This is a great opportunity for a Paralegal, Legal Assistant, Contracts Specialist, Contracts Administrator or junior in-house legal professional with practical experience of drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements.
The client is particularly interested in candidates who have hands-on experience with NDAs / confidentiality agreements and supply or supplier contracts, alongside other commercial agreements such as Statements of Work.
Working as part of a collaborative contracts team, you will support colleagues across the business on contractual matters relating to new and existing clients and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review and negotiate NDAs, supply and supplier contracts plus the possibility of handling confidentiality agreements and statements of work (SOWs).
- Manage contracts through the review, approval and record-keeping processes.
- Provide practical commercial and contractual support to colleagues across the business.
- Support internal stakeholders with contractual processes, requirements and queries.
- Provide commercial and contractual input on a variety of business projects.
- Identify and implement improvements to contractual processes and ways of working.
- Maintain accurate contract documentation and records.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, clients and suppliers.

About You & Experience
The ideal candidate will have hands-on commercial contracts experience, including drafting, reviewing and/or negotiating the likes of NDAs, supply or supplier contracts.
Your experience could have been gained as a Paralegal, Legal Assistant, Contracts Specialist, Contracts Administrator or within a junior in-house legal/commercial role. The client is open to candidates from a range of backgrounds, provided you can demonstrate practical experience working with commercial agreements.
The ideal will be to have:
- Previous experience in a contracts, commercial, legal or similar role.
- Practical experience drafting, reviewing and/or negotiating NDAs / confidentiality agreements.
- Experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating or administering supply, supplier or other commercial contracts.
- A good understanding of contract law and commercial risk.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple agreements, priorities and stakeholders.
- Excellent attention to detail when managing contractual documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good numeracy and literacy skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- The ability to work independently, while recognising when to seek advice or escalate issues.
- A commercially minded and pragmatic approach to identifying and managing contractual risk.
- Confidence communicating with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- The ability to take ownership of day-to-day contractual matters and work collaboratively across the business.
- Strong negotiation skills and a calm, considered approach.
- A proactive mindset, with an interest in improving processes and ways of working.
- A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to roll up your sleeves and get involved wherever support is needed.
- A law degree or relevant qualification would be advantageous, although equivalent practical experience gained within a contracts, commercial or legal environment will also be considered.

Desirable:
- Previous in-house legal experience.
- Experience drafting and negotiating contracts within a technology consulting or technology-focused organisation.
- Experience working within a business that develops products.
- Awareness of GDPR and data protection principles.
Working Arrangements
The role is based just South of Cambridge and operates on a hybrid basis, with colleagues typically spending around 60% of their time onsite.
Given the collaborative nature of the role, a higher level of onsite working is anticipated during the first month to support induction, training and relationship building.
The role is offered on an initial 3 month interim contract, working 37 hours per week. Applications from candidates seeking a minimum of 30 hours per week will also be welcomed.
Rate: up to £180 per day via an umbrella company, subject to applicable deductions.
